There is no greater gift. From my experience, both as a student and as a mentor, I think that the student-teacher relationship is one of the greatest gifts life has to offer. I love my students like I adore my kids. I am their fiercest advocate and their biggest fan.
It is a tremendous source of satisfaction for me to watch my students grow and develop, both as musicians and as human beings.
Over and over, and with every student, I have witnessed how becoming a better musician makes you a better person. Music increases our intelligence, it enhances our social skills, it enables us to love more deeply and it connects us with our spirituality. Who ever thought that this kind of magic could happen just by saying, "put this finger here and that finger there." ?
I teach guitar to adults and children, all levels, from beginner to advanced. Students can perform at a local cafe and record using professional equipment as part of my guitar program, if they wish.
Get better chops!
In the technique classes, affectionately known as Bootcamp, we do drills and right and left hand exercises together.
When I first started Bootcamp, I told my students it was be compulsory, I promised it would be FUN and I guaranteed better chops. I LOVE bootcamp! It's my dream come true!!!
For the café performances, we go to a café and all play for each other. These get -togethers are informal and fun. We laugh and chat and enjoy supporting each other in our musical growth. We share a potluck snack and drink tea (Alison is suggesting we move onto rum!) and, all in all, it's an enjoyable afternoon.
Twice a year, at Christmas and at the end of the year, you will be able to record some music using studio quality equipment. You will have a half hour slot to record about two minutes of music. You will have a producer to help you get the best possible takes and you will have an engineer who knows how to use the equipment and make the edits for your recording. Preparing for a recording is very different than preparing for a performance. Besides getting comfortable in front of a microphone, you will really develop as a player by making these recordings. And you will have some wonderful CD's to share with your friends and your FANS!!!
